Our Story
started long before there was a River View Park & Resort.
Dad was bitten by the RV'ing bug back in the 1970's when my sister and I were small. First, we rented an FMC, then Dad joined the Good Sam Club and we bought a Revcon. We travelled to Disney World, family events in Texas, and one summer crossed the US all the way from Natchez, MS to British Columbia, Canada.
As we grew, our rigs grew and Dad moved across the BlueBird line. Then, once we were gone he transferred his affection to yachts - but really, what's a big boat but an RV on the water? (However, that's a story for another time.)
Then, in the late 1990's, Dad and business associate Larry Chauvin were approached by the City of Vidalia. No longer needed by the city, area leaders were looking for ways to jazz up the riverfront and bring more visitors in. The location seemed like a natural fit for something the Miss-Lou area was lacking: an RV park with easy access to the river and the towns of Vidalia and Natchez. By 2000, with the help and support of their wives, Judy Stahlman and Edith Chauvin, the River View RV Park & Resort was founded on the west side of the Mississippi River.
The River was in Dad's blood - having lived on the bluffs of Natchez most of his life, he could not get enough of it. What began as a retirement project blossomed into a full-time job when he went on to expand River View in 2005, growing the number of sites to 135, opening up availability on the north side of the park to aid in post-Hurricane Katrina emergency housing efforts, and adding two cottages on the south side.
Dad loved being able to mix business with pleasure, making friends with many guests who returned year after year. One of our annual highlights combines two of his greatest projects with the park often hosting balloonists for the Natchez Balloon Festival every October.
In early 2020, Dad was diagnosed with and succombed to ALS. He was an amazing father, friend, entrepreneur, visionary, and all-around people person - and he is dearly missed by all who knew him.
My sister, Deborah and her husband, Kevin, took the reins in early 2021. Deb is a natural fit, having already spent time in the hospitality industry - first in Houston,TX then running her own inn, the Coachstop, in Bar Harbor, ME - prior to returning home. Thanks to their expanded vision and tireless efforts the River View continues to thrive!
We hope you enjoy your time with us - and come back again to visit us here on the banks of the Mighty Mississippi!
